African Sisterhood is a registered 501(c)3 Nonprofit Organization. We provide reusable menstrual kits, and deliver menstrual health education. We aim to break the stigma around menstruation and ensure girls can attend school confidently and without interruption.

African Sisterhood is a nonprofit organization based in Arizona, USA, with hands-on distribution in Kenya, Africa. Our team travels to Africa to personally distribute reusable feminine hygiene kits, ensuring that girls receive the resources and education they need to stay in school and avoid early marriage.

The name African Sisterhood was inspired by a heartfelt moment at an orphanage when one of the girls asked Jessie if she would be her sister. That simple yet powerful request sparked the vision of creating a sisterhood that provides reusable feminine products to young girls across Africa.

Our pads last 3-5 years. Reusable sanitary pads are cost-effective, environmentally friendly, and sustainable, making them ideal for girls in low-income or rural communities.

Each young women is provided with:

(7)Reusable feminine pads

(2)Pair of new cotton underwear

(1)New Wash cloth

(1)Bar of soap (purchased in Africa)

(1)Instructions on feminine hygiene and how to care for the pads

In many rural areas of Kenya, the lack of access to feminine hygiene products is a leading cause of teenage pregnancy. In their desperation to attend school, girls are often forced to exchange "favors" for pads. By providing young women with reusable pads, we eliminate the monthly struggle to access basic hygiene products . With their own personal pads, girls gain the independence to manage their needs without relying on others. Reusable pads not only help reduce waste, but they are also more cost-effective than single-use disposable pads. Additionally, teaching girls how to make their own pads fosters empowerment and equips them with valuable skills to meet their needs and support their communities.

We provide underwear because, in many rural areas of Kenya, access to basic clothing like underwear is limited or nonexistent. By supplying underwear, we help address a critical need, promoting dignity, hygiene, and comfort for those we serve.

Period poverty refers to the lack of access to menstrual products, adequate sanitation facilities, and menstrual health education, often due to financial constraints or systemic inequalities. It affects millions of individuals worldwide, particularly in underserved communities, leading to health risks, missed education or work opportunities, and social stigma. Our organization is dedicated to addressing period poverty by providing resources, education, and advocacy to ensure menstrual equity for all.

We have proudly hand-delivered over 2,000 feminine hygiene kits. Empowering and educating women and girls across communities in Kenya.
